you can read the summary of the plot for yourself. I wanted to like this book and might have given it a higher rating if not for the ending. there was a lot of suffering in this book and i don't doubt that the domestic abuse, human trafficking, etc is true. but the ending just wasn't complete enough for me.
This book has an obvious feminist message, but I think it’s a type of feminism that differs from the kind that we encounter everyday as American women. What can we glean about womanhood/girlhood from Poornima/Savitha? At the beginning of the novel, no one seems to think twice about prioritizing male needs over female ones. But over time, Poornima and Savitha begin to prioritize each other, even putting themselves in dangerous situations in hopes of finding the other. Is this a healthy reaction to their situations? Do we feel like their priorities worked out for them in the end?
Sad. The ending was bad. Storyline focuses on a lot of rape and sexism against women. Every man in this book is a rapist, creep or bad guy. We get it, the author hates men.
