The writer is good (writing style in general), yet the story itself is weak. A quick read (if you're motivated to get through it) on the closing of a Red Lobster business. He could have expanded on the characters to make it more exciting.
I enjoyed the book and found it to be easy to read. While I liked it, I did feel that the book left me feeling like something was missing.
This was a very well-written story about a very mundane event. Narrated by the manager of a Red Lobster restaurant that is going out of business, O,Nan recounts the events of the last night of operation. He presents a wonderfully detailed snapshot of the setting and the characters, but while I could appreciate the quality of the writing, it was hard to get past the insignificance of the subject. This provided an enjoyable quick read, certainly provokes some thought and leaves the reader satisfied, but I don't think it would generate much good discussion.
For any of us in smaller communities it may strike a chord. Like most, the concept of the Red Lobster by the Mall. This made me think of our own Red Lobster by the Mall. Not "grabbing" but kind of cute.
A taste of life, one night, not a lot of exciting drama or crime, just real people with their everyday lives. Manny and his restaurant crew carry on during the last night if service at the Lobster, with their sweet and sad life stories playing out side by side.
