An intriguing view in flahbacks to WWII in America, set in the context of a modern day woman's struggle to get her life back on track. It is a mystery, a romance and a bit of little known US history all in one. A good read.

Enjoyed the WW two flashback part of the book - didn't like the mondern day as much. Events were not really believable, but enjoyed seeing how the story unfolded.

This is a mysterious, romantic story with a touch of history thrown in. The author uses notes written in the margins of classic novels by two unknown people during WWII to propel the story along. She keeps you guessing about what happened during the 1940's as you wait for the characters in the current day storyline to try to figure it out. For me, this was a page-turner.

If you're considering reading a Karen White book, go with The Beach Trees. It's FANTASTIC! I read On Folly Beach after and just wasn't as satisfied. I liked it, but not loved it. I am still planning on reading more Karen White. One thing I liked about this book was learning stuff about that time period.

I liked much of the story but it didn't flow as well for me as a reader. I usually love her books and so far this is the one that's my least favorite. It did have some interesting historical information.

Loved this book - finished it in two sessions. Couldn't wait until the end. A great story and also very interesting info about Folly Beach, bottle trees (I want one!) and WWII spying in SC.

I couldn't put it down! I kept wondering what would happen next. At the end, there were still unanswered questions. Our book club had a wonderful discussion.
I will read more of her books.
