The author has experienced stressful times and disaster in her own life as a journalist but also a therapist. I found the personal stories of people who have gone through grief and come out to find meaning and growth very inspiring. I loved her helpful tips at the end of every chapter. They are not time intensive--they can be done quickly and they do make a positive difference in your emotional state. I find myself highlighting things she says and the advice she gives. Very helpful book to me.
Dr. Nadel nails exactly what it feels like to experience loss or trauma, and helps guide the way back to the light. It's an emotional first aid tool, but it also feels like a good friend is wrapping you in a hug and telling you that everything will be okay - and then proving it to you.
