A timeless story line of good and evil. Spectacular writing that is timeless. A must read or re-read.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading "East of Eden," even more than "The Grapes of Wrath" (which was exceptional). The descriptive imagery intertwined with the lives of the characters brought the story to life in ways other authors only dream of creating. In my book, John Steinbeck is the master of American storytelling.
I have NEVER liked anything by Steinbeck....until I read East of Eden. It's one of my all time favorites. Beautifully written - well worth the read!
The story of 2 brothers; good vs. evil.
The story is very complex and in the beginning will drag with detail BUT WAIT! It picks up a great pace, it all comes together, and you are glad you read such a fascinating story.
This book shows the complexity and simplicity of human character and how they are passed down through generations.
I enjoyed this book as crazy as the people are in it. Our club discussed this book more than any other I think we've ever read (and we've read some great books and LONG books!). There is a lot to it.
One of my favorite books of all time! John Steinbeck is a master of story telling!
So glad I read this novel. I never would have picked it up were it not for a book club. I could not put it down and have given it as a gift to many friends who all loved it..Epic, Chilling, and sometimes funny...Just read it!
There's a lot to take in and think about. Our book club really enjoyed talking about all the spiritual material of the book.
Likable until it became too wordy. By page 400, it was like, “Land this thing already, Steinbeck!”
