This book is difficult to explain; when I gave a brief summary to my book club EVERYONE said something like, "I thought this was going to be a book about a couple who has a down syndrome child and that the book would be okay but the book is AWESOME."
So rather than misrepresent it's wonderful content please know this a great book with a great story.
This book is good for discussion especially for anyone who's been pregnant. Don't read this one while you are expecting. Much too emotional for those who don't need any more worry while the bun is in the oven.
Some of our members weren't enthusiastic about choosing this book -- if you have a special needs child, you've heard it all and don't want to read about it. But we all loved the way the author wrote it. She writes about very heavy topics with such humor and self-deprecation that the book was a page-turner for us. Like the author, many of us are not very religious, yet we found her experience of spiritual forces beyond our understanding both comforting and plausible. And the process of becoming open to it is a story worth reading.
