"Although I didn't much care for this book, it generated a lively, enjoyable discussion." by scribread (see profile) 11/15/07

This interesting story plot was presented with excessive detail and repetition of emotional histories. If I had to read this book again, I would skim the first half and read the second half. The story was mostly predictable, an interesting historical period was weighed down with extraneous details. Where are the editors?

I love looking into my past history and my ancestors history to find out where I came from so this book was very interesting to me. I didn't like Bassie at first but toward the end I could see one of the reasons that she turned out like she did and Meg, I really haven't liked throughout the whole book, I don't like her character but you have to have good and bad characters to make a book interesting and inspiring.
