I think one of the signs of a great writer is that he or she can take an otherwise deplorable character and have you rooting for them in the end! I really enjoyed reading this book and will definitely read the rest of the series (and probably watch the Showtime series). I found myself laughing in several places in this book and then reminding myself that I really shouldn't be. Don't you love dark comedy! While this book is not a typical book club pick, I think it brings up several topics that can be discussed, such as "eye for an eye", "vigilante justice", sibling rivalry, and sexual harassment in the work place.
I liked this book. I found it witty and clever. The dark humor, the twists and turns all were very entertaining. After reading this book I decided to watch a few episodes of the TV show and I really liked that too. It is a new and very unusual storyline, hard to do with today's attitude of seen it all, done it all.
Our club split right down the middle on this one. Several members watch the series and really liked it; the rest of us - not so much. The pro side really liked the character and the issues he dealt with for his "dark passenger". The con side feel that Dexter is not God and therefore should not be allowed to determine who "bad people" are and rid the world of theme.
I loved this book. I thought I had the whole thing figured out, but I was completely wrong. I was a little disappointed with the very end, however, but over all I loved it. I couldn\\\'t put it down.
