This is a classic American novel. Probably an important and necessary read for an American Literature student, not so much for a book club. The book is long and there may be a number words that need looking up. There is little action and not really a satisfactory ending. The main characters are sympathetic yet we do not really understand their motivation. For a book club that reads more current books - this one is a definite variation. The discussion requires research.
This book provides interesting insights into human behavior and the quality of writing is outstanding. I think by reading this book you can gain valuable knowledge into the period during which the story takes place and a deeper understanding of human interaction.
