This is a wonderful story about a young woman growing up in the South in the post-WWII era. She sees the racial violence and discrimination that plagues Mississippi and questions the complacency of those around her. She joins the civil rights movement only to question the ability of Southerners to change at all. It is an inspiring tale of self discovery and an insightful look into the minds of young African Americans during the period.
