Our members thought that the book was not well written. The author did not stay with any character long enough. There may have been material for three books but was stuffed into one book.
However we had a lively discussion about American companies in Cuba, racism, Capitalism, and relationships. Because the book got us all thinking about how destructive "the bottom line" can be I recommend "Telex From Cuba".
The book gives an insightful look at Cuba pre-Castro. One will find an examination of capitalism, politics and culture through the experiences of the characters. There is some confusion as the writer moves from character to character in the development of the plot. Overall, however, this was a really good book to have read and I do recommend it.
The basic story was good but the author droned on and on in many chapters making it difficult to want to keep on reading.
