This is the first in a series featuring a detective named Darko Dawson. While it is often compared to the Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency, I find this a misleading statement. Where the NOLDA is light, Wife of the Gods is darker, and full of more emotion! I found this to be a book that can be enjoyed on many levels. For those who just like a good "whodunit" yarn, its a very satisfying read. However, for those who want to dive deeper below the surface, particularly in a book club setting, you will also be very satisfied. The practices of traditional witchcraft are interesting and presented in a manner that allows the reader to compare how much of scientific modern world has moved away from our spiritual past. Great book and cannot wait for the next installment!

Worth reading if only for the information about the practice of giving a daughter to a "god" in order to break a family's bad luck streak. Interesting look at a culture
