The book is like reading a Russian novel, lots of characters - all with the same name. The 100 years of this families history is covered in great detail. I loved the book and plan on reading it again.
This is an epic story of one family. I loved the story, it was haunting and beautiful, but confusing as each generation was named after the previous, so it was hard to remember who was original vs the following generations. My book club had an interesting discussion (those who finished it).
The characters, the adventures, the lives of the entire family are an example for the weaknesses and strength of human nature. The magic realism adds freshness, irony and comicality to the whole novel. A must read to the readers of the world...and if is in Spanish, the better, translations always leave something aside.
I loved the dynamics in the family. Wonderful tale.
Read on the recommendation of a book club member. The description is "magical realism" and there were some really interesting aspects to the author's writing. Unfortunately, the book was about twice as long as it should have been. After reaching the climax, the remaining 200 pages kind of dragged on. Most book club members didn't finish the book and thought it was just too strange.
Wonderful book. Historic. Great writing.
