The premise will shock you. The characters will win you over. This is an interesting character study of two women carrying on their struggles with their own eras of history, as the backdrop. Are some women of the past stronger and more courageous than we can imagine? Why do people do the things they do? Is it because humans believe in good causes that we do good deeds or is it usually for love?
"Saving the World" was an interesting novel but unfortunately nothing compared to some of Alvarez's other works. Her novels "In the Time of the Butterflies" and "In the Name of Salome" are brilliant. That being said I found "Saving the World" interesting but not necessarily worthy of book club discussions.
