This book was a re-read for many of the members. It is the first in a long fantasy series by Piers Anthony. The book is light and fun but still filled with serious thoughts and ideas that we discussed at length. These topics ranged from advertising and media to death, morality, and the human soul.
perhaps I should not be the one entering this info as I did not get a chance to read it myself. the lively question/answer session at our recent meeting convinced me that I Should read it. the title suggested western fiction to me but to my surprise that was not the subject matter at all. but rather an interesting interpretation of life after death so to speak. in the Christian vernacular comparing Purgatory to \"the Office\" and how one might be elevated out of that position or left lingering. This book incited the most dialogue we\'ve ever had. Wish I had read it so I could offer better personal insight but as someone who reads a very diverse catalog of material I am intrigued by this story.
Very fun premise, and manages to tackle some tough subjects without becoming preachy. A little dated in parts, but that just adds to the fun.
