Obviously the events told in this story were meant to happen. There is no reason he should have lived to get off the mountain, find funding, and survive so many set-backs to build these schools. I found it inspiring.
Definitely gave me new insight into the war in Afghanistan.
Detractor opinion: Some people find the events too hard to believe and feel the main character is annoying and just fumbling along.
The story follows the path that Dr. Greg took, and it's "A Long and Winding Road." You share all his frustrations and tears and inspirations along the way. It's well worth the trip.
I had a hard time getting through this though I was glad I read the whole thing when I was done. Inspiring yet frustrating.
While the story is interesting and inspring we felt the book dragged on too long and was almost like a promotional book for his organization. The recent allegations of fabrications added doubts about the books credibility. His experiences after 9/11 and on "the war on terror" were insightful.
