Having never read a book from this author, we were pleasantly surprised with The Levee. Written in past and present time, the author kept us following the story without any confusion. And for some of us, being Mississippi River people ourselves, the references to place were very entertaining. But we agreed that our favorite part was the twist at the end. No one saw it coming!
