"Great Book About an Interesting Man" by ladyjane806 (see profile) 01/06/11

This book is about the life of Captain Sully Sullenberger. It begins by explaining how he learned to fly in a crop duster while in high school and details his military training as a pilot and all the close calls he encountered during training drills. Throughout the book there are detailed accounts of the fateful day when he landed his jet in the Hudson River saving everyone on board after loss of both engines. The letters from those on the plane who survived written to Sully are heartwarming. You will learn a lot about his childhood, his family and also about the changes to the airline industry that have made it difficult for pilots to make a living. I found the cockpit recordings and his explanation of them fascinating. It truly is a great read and inspirational- someone who was so well prepared after a lifetime of hard work, studying and training who got to put it to use and save lives, "To save a life is to save the world"
