I found this book difficult to get into. I thought that the main character, Alice, was a bit of a "Mary Sue" character, who always somehow knew exactly what to do in every circumstance. Some of the sentences also seemed awkwardly structured to me, and I would have to reread them to understand what they were saying. But the story is an interesting one- Restoration England is a great period in history and an easy one to form discussion questions around. Also, the characters are all so forceful that it is hard not to have an opinion one way or another!
I found this book fairly enjoyable. But, I'm a history nerd. I've found from experience that you have to be fond of fictional history to get into books like this. I found the main character believable, in the choices that she made and the challenges that she had to face. I would not really recommend this book for discussion but I think that it was a good book to read on my own.
