This was very enjoyable read, easy to get through. A little displeased about the character development of William, but as he is not a main character, I got over it.
Nancy Kington, 16, discovering that the family's fortune comes from the labor of slaves on their Jamaican plantation. Not only that, but she has a half-sister named Minerva living on the plantation.
Now the estate is in near ruin as the family fortune has been leeched by her brothers. Their plan to save themselves is to sell their sister to a rich, and extremely creepy, neighbor.
Dreading a forced marriage that would be in truth slavery, Nancy and Minerva make a run for it, after Nancy kills her late father's overseer when she finds him trying to rape Minerva, and join a pirate crew.
This is a good thriller, and while it's pretty improbable, it was very entertaining.
