Although I would have preferred that THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED got unputdownable sooner that it did, it did get there before I was ready to give up on it. At least the buildup to the mystery grabbed my interest right away.
Some of the characters in this book are not who they appear to be, two of them in particular. There's Zach, who appears to be in love with Tallulah and devoted to their baby but actually loves to be in control. And Scarlett, who appears to be beautiful and popular and in a relationship with a man, then claims to Tallulah to be in love with her, is actually a monster who uses people and loves no one. Poor Tallulah!
And her poor mother! When Tallulah and Zach go missing, her mother, Kim, tries to figure out where they are as opposed to Zach's parents' unconcern. But Kim does get help and support from an interested writer, Sophie. Together, they get the case of Tallulah and Zach's disappearance reopened after a year so it can be solved.
Lisa Jewell has written another winner for me. (At least it feels like it's for me.)
