Wonderful, romantic and inspiring book - thought of my grandparents and great-grandparents throughout the entire read.
I loved the author's Big Stone Gap series much better. However, it was a moving story, and her descriptions were just wonderful. If your book club does a cooking theme, then this book is for you! Reading it will make you hungry!
I loved this book about life in the Italian Alps, and immigration in the US, ear.y 1900's. Enza and Ciro fist met in Italy, and were meant to find each other again in the US. Their story is one of love, hard work, and sacrifice. I loved this book!
Spanning years, it looks at the immigrant experience in the early twentieth century. Very sweet and interesting.
The book started following the characters when they were children and all the problems that they experienced. The book described the characters in Italy and then America and all the historical events that happened to them. It showed how chance meetings can change your life and never give up on love.
Trigiani takes inspiration from her real life grandparents to write a great love story that spans from the Italian Alps to Manhattan to Minnesota. The best thing for me was reading about the experiences and lives of the Italian immigrants (since my great grandfather and great grandmother were ones themselves). However, even if you can\'t relate in that way, Trigiani\'s descriptions and characters are so well drawn that the story should captivate just about anyone. I highly recommend it!
The Shoemaker's Wife is a beautiful story, rich in character, scenery and depth. As I turned each page I walked the Alps of Italy and the cobblestones of Rome; took in the sights and smells of Little Italy and felt the warmth of love shared in Minnesota. This novel is based on a true story and for that reason it became even more beautiful. “Beware the things of this world that can mean everything or nothing.”
