"An inspiring read - incredible true story with an even more incredible outcome." by bbentz (see profile) 03/12/10

This book was compelling and amazing on so many levels. It is a true and rare story of hope, faith and forgiveness. It emphasizes the issues within our legal system as well as the incredible strength of two people to overcome their own biases and personal trials and become joined in a single and important cause. It highlights how faith and perserverance can and does pay off, as well as the key role of Innocence Projects as they face what appear to be impossible odds to right the wrongs of our system. A great and memorable read.

"Great Book Club Pick - True Story, Incredible Outcome" by bbentz (see profile) 03/21/10

I live in NC and was aware of this noteworth true story even before I met the author at a party. The incredible shame of rape, the wrongs of our legal system, and the impacts of the victim of rape and the accused - a vitcim of the legal system - make for a compelling read. Thompson-Cannino and Cotton have forged a deep bond and are telling their incredible story in the national media, a story that inspires forgiveness and motivates the reader to consider the wrongs in their own past. Highly recommended.

"Memory and Forgiveness Are Tricky Things" by Stowel (see profile) 06/11/10

The remarkable friendship of Ronald Cotton and Jennifer Thompson-Cannino inspires and reveals. In this finely written true tale of fear, determination, forgiveness and finally of love, we learn how even the worst of circumstances can lead to life-affirming, impactful change that makes life better for others. Two learnings: Despite our most concerted efforts, what we remember most vividly may not in fact be real. And forgiving yourself for hurting others can be much more challenging than forgiving others for the hurt they have caused you.

This book was very much a journey of self-realization, learning, growing, and changing. Both main characters made themselves better throughout the course of the book, and that is a very hopeful thing.

"More inspiring than you would think" by dborda (see profile) 03/02/11

An inspiring account of how a rape victim picks the wrong man out of a lineup leading to him spending 11 years in jail for a crime he did not commit. In the end, the victim and the man she accused become friends. An inspirational book about our justice system and forgiveness. We wish the writing had included more in-depth descriptions of Ronald Cotton's emotions and time in prison.

"A Book to Inspire Discussion" by [email protected] (see profile) 03/22/16

Picking Cotton was one of the favorite picks of our bookclub. It was the longest book club we have had to date with all the members sharing personal stories and opinions. We were all extremely impressed with Ronald Cotton who spent 16 years in prison for a rape he did not commit and then forgave both women who picked him out of a lineup. He said he understood because they endured such a terrible experience.

Based on a true story, this book makes you explore race discrimination, our legal system, and how would you react if in the same situation. Good book for discussion.
