I read this book very quickly. I pride myself on (and sometimes kick myself for) figuring out where the book is going, what is going to happen and who did what! I thought I had this one figured out too but Karen White threw in a curve ball!
I thought this book had just the right amount of mystery, suspense, heartbreak and romance. Mixed all together it created a wonderful recipe that makes me want to read more Karen White books!
Jillian, called "Jilly Bean" by her adorable daughter, Grace, is pregnant with her second child and in the midst of divorcing the father. She up and moves back to Pawley's Island, where she spent summers with her grandmother and her best friends Lauren and Linc. When they were teenagers, Lauren and Linc were a couple; however, Lauren goes missing and Linc is suspected of foul play.
As Jillian deals with the ghosts from her childhood, her daughter, Grace, starts speaking to her own ghost, aptly named, Lauren. Thus begins a quest for the truth of what happened to Lauren.
Fast paced and believable - I loved this story and did not want it to end!
This book had a bit of everything love story, mystery, and super natural, and was feel good read.
Karen White did a wonderful jon creating a mysterious love story. I really enjoyed this book. I didn't figure out ahead what really happened.
Lately, I have seen a lot of reviews on novels by Karen White, so while perusing the list of her novels, "The Color of Light" jumped out at me. I'm not sure why, maybe the beautiful cover which just feels free, clean, and refreshing, all the components to a great spring or summer read.
This is a great story of how the lack of love from a mother can impact your life and how the love for your children can impact your life even greater. With Mother's day a few days away, this book really made me reflect on how important mothers are to well being of a child; children see the reflection of themselves in your eyes.
This story is about a woman finding herself and the life she wants to live despite the tragedies in her life, a community bond, faithful friends, a love story, suspense and self acceptance. Sometimes the book is a bit predictable but I truly enjoyed it, and I look forward to reading some of Karen White's other novels.
I am such a huge fan of Karen White stories and this one did not disappoint. Her stories are always filled with strong family bonds (whether old, new or renewed). The story of Jillian whose less then perfect childhood (described as a child whose sharp bones of her face and body jutted out like those of a starved child but it was known even then that she was only starved of all those things that were freely given to other children) trickles into her adult life with doubts of her ability to love and be loved, to nurture, to be a mother. Full of mystery, intrigue and hidden secrets, this story tells of the story of the strength found in overcoming adversity, the will to endure through the encouragement of others and finding your place in life. A hearty warming story that will keep you guessing until the end.
Her stories are always such page turners with fun and interesting little twists. He is also great at character development. There are always some interesting take-aways from the story and though provoking quotes.
