While a very enjoyable, light read, our club found little beyond a brief mention regarding the family dynamics to incite discussion. The oldest daughter's struggle seemed realistic but we were disappointed with how the mother's initial strength disappeared as soon as she could depend on a man again. Overall, a wonderful beach read and a nice escape each time the pages are turned.

Watching four female family members intertwine their lives as they overcome love, loss and the drama of life on remote Tuckernuck Island. Draws you into the Island life and the sorrow of Chess as she calls off her wedding and then discover her ex fiances tragic death!

The story is Tuckernuck the island. The ladies just bring their special thoughts, feelings and wishes to it. Ms. Hilderbrand writes beautifully.
We had good discussion and most of us will be reading more of her works.

Ridiculous! Some of the characters needed a slap behind the head.

A great beach read - easy and quick - and did give us a lot to discuss at our book club.

"The Island Was a Great Get-Away" by nbaker (see profile) 04/15/13

While the story was fairly predictable, the author did a wonderful job of developing the characters and creating a realistic feel of spending quiet solitary days on the shore. A story of four females (a mom, her two daughters and her sister) who each are dealing with their own internal turmoil, find a way to bond together and strengthen not only themselves but their family ties to one another. A good summer read.
