This book was enjoyed by all members of our group. It was very well written and offered some insightful views on the Chinese culture.
This book is different from most of Ms. Buck's books in that it focuses on an upper class Chinese family and brings understanding to a different way of looking at class sterotypes. I particularly loved the seamless way she moved through the various stages of her characters' lives and made unexpected events seem inevitable once they had occurred.
