This book really opened my eyes to the world of world-class mountain climbing.

Very hard to put down. Krakauer makes you feel like you are on the mountain with him.

I read this book with a book club. I would never have read it by my own choice. The style of writing is like a documentary. The story line doesn't really flow smoothly. I admit that I am a friction fan, & that I didn't really like the main character (also the author); he seemed selfish & egotistical to me.
The most interesting part of the book is the last quarter of the book. Krakauer begins to question himself (& I think he should) after the ordeal. He admits that after the book was first published, he received a lot of criticism from some readers. The questions raised are not clear cut & worth pondering; however, a little more humility would have made for a better book.

The book was pretty slow in the beginning, but the end was very good. There were too many people and names, so was difficult to follow at times. Overall the book was worth reading, if you can get past the beginning.

Heartstopping, true story of Everst climb gone terribly wrong. Interestingly, mention this book to most men and it will likely be listed as a favorite.

Great read! This book remains one of my top five favorites and began my fascination with risky adventure biographies. I no longer question why people cling the earth’s monstrosities but am morbidly drawn to their quests.
