I thought the book was sloppily written--lack of dates and specificity as in "several years?" How many years is "several?" What did "Playing with the Enemy" refer to? It's sort of implied, but not really analyzed. The obvious answer is playing with the German sailors, but it could also refer to dealing with his own demons. More of a book for pre-teen readers than adults. Did the Pirates release Gene Moore due to his injury or was there more to it?

Once starting on this book, I couldn't put it down. It brought back memories of my brother who played baseball while in the Army during WW2. Only his career was cut short, when he died in Normandy. Will probably read it again.
