My biggest criticism of this book is the lack of character development. Our book club unanimously agreed that the reader feels no attachment or connection to the characters and does not like or route for any of them. The general premise is good, but it is not explored in an insightful or meaningful way. We felt the book was probably edited to delete some significant parts of the story for a potential sequel.
I enjoyed the book and plan to read the next one The President's Vampire. Still, I don't think it would make a great book club selection - not enough to discuss. Really, any selection from the horror genre might be an iffy choice; I can't see many in my book club wanting to read a horror selection ... vampires, zombies, etc. Great fun to read on your own, though.
