You are transported to the sheep country of Montana and the life in the small town bar all from the perspective of a 12-year-old as remembered years later. I did not want this book to end. Highly recommend this!
Told through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy as remembered 30 years later. Ivan Doig captures the insecurity and naivete of youth The Montana characters in the story ring true and are varied and interesting. The author's device that allows Rusty and his friend, Zoe to observe the adult world undetected was very effective in bring color to the story.
The story ends with a dramatic climax and tidy wrapping up of character stories. All in all very satisfying.
A feel good story about a son and his father....
Heart-warming story by Seattle author; several had read his other works and wanted to fill out their reading of his earlier works (this was the last before his death).
A bonus was that 2 of us had ties to Montana, where the story is set. Recommended.
We met at local pub...similar to that in the book! Bonus for our evening planner.
