I didn't care for this book. The humor didn't really work and the deeper topics addressed (customs, philosophies and religions of the many ethnic groups in India)were not presented in a particularly interesting way. The book started off pretty well, but never really took off. I found myself skimming some of the chapters and anxious to be done with it. Perhaps, having just finished Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, this other book about India just didn't have a chance... Shantaram had everything this book lacked and would be a much better choice!
Having picked up this book while traveling in India, I found her comments accurate, although at times a bit harsh. There are many things in India that could considered sad or ugly by some, but the people, the culture and history of the country are beautiful and amazing.
I did love her interest in all the reglions that come with India. Many people mistake India as being purely Hindu, not realizing how many other religions are there (even one of the Christian apostles is buried there.)
I enjoyed her adventures and I love how I relived my advertures as I read.
