"Compilation of magazine articles" by Neyly (see profile) 04/07/11

Compilation of "essays" from The New Yorker magazine - some outdated. Some of the selections were interesting, but overall I'm not a fan of Gladwell's approach. He wanted you to reach his conclusions; his "research" seems biased toward his POV. In addition, his writing meanders until at some point you want to scream "focus." I do think that I would have enjoyed reading his articles in a magazine (as part of a whole "something else") more than I did in a book.

"Makes You Think" by julice (see profile) 05/21/11

This book covers a wide variety of topics, including Ron Popeil, the homeless and how to evaluate a good teacher. Surprisingly, each chapter brought new information and insight that had us saying: "I never knew that!" As with all of Malcolm Gladwell's books, he talks about complex issues in a reader-friendly way. What he writes about has consistently created wonderful discussion for our book club.
