The book overall was a good read. Very interesting and moving material. The writers style was a little hard for me to follow in the beginning. She seemed to move around a lot and I think this is because these were her very young memories. If you make it past the first choppy section of the book it does get better and is definitely worth sticking with it.

In the beginning of the book she kept going back to her adult and her child lives, so it made it a bit confusing and hard to read, sometimes. But, once you get past the first few chapters it became easier to read. Doreen's story of a Girls War is very detailed account of her experience of her WWII evacuation, of how scared and confused a child can get with not knowing why they were sent away from harms way. It was a very telling and moving story. I would recommend it to others to read.

Although this book was hard to keep up with due to the author jumping around a lot, it is a necessary read. This is a first hand account of the war, and seeing how it affected even the kids, was interesting. As you will read in the book, it took the author a long time to even be able to discuss the book, and I am extremely thankful that she decided to do so.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. It was very engaging and so informative of how people thought back then. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
