"Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porck. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker-his classmate and crush-who" by Lisakm (see profile) 05/17/08

This is an excellent book. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. This book is both scary and thought provoking. I highly recommend this book for discussion.

"Book about a sensitive subject, teen suicide. Written in such a way to get into the mind of the person who committed suicide, and also the minds of the people left behind." by cheriann (see profile) 04/22/09

I really liked this book a lot, and couldn't put it down once I started it. Very well written, has a nice flow to it. It is a great book for discussion!

This should be required middle school reading. Everyones actions have consequence - and teenagers take things in a very serious way.

The topic of the book prompted a great discussion for our book club. Hannah's background could have been better developed. I was waiting for the big reveal which never happened.

Very well-written in a unique style of back-and-forth narration. Despite the subject matter, it is not a gloomy book. I found it hard to put down - just as Clay found it hard not to listen to all the tapes in one night!

"Good for a discussion" by Kandee (see profile) 07/22/11

I thought this book was a book that they should use in high school to have insightful conversations. I am going to recommend this to my book club so we can discuss it. I thought it was really interesting and the author chose a unique way to right this. Hannah's character was intriguing as sometimes I didn't like her at all...and then I felt guilty about that. I kept going back & forth on how I felt about this character. That's why I think it's highly discussable. Hard material to get through but I love the way the author chose to tell the story.

I was so drawn into this book...the way the book flowed back and forth with the things that lead up to a child contemplating taken their life..heartbreaking ... but worth the read.. teaches us and reminds us how to be kind, act kindly and live kindly...

The writing format was an interesting way to tell the story of a teenage girls suicide. It created a lot of dicussion in book club members. It really called attention to impact of one persons action that results in a snowball effect for another person. This book was the first "young adult" book for our club. It created a lot of disucssion about how and when teens should be reading this book. Is suicide something parents speak to their children about???

"Insightful" by akalota (see profile) 12/14/11

2/7 members of the club experienced a family member's death by suicide and 1/7 lost a friend. This was the second book featured in our new club. The conversation was thoughtful, generating memories of teenage life experiences. A courageous choice for group discussion. A disquieting topic.
