I had a hard time getting through the story - it simply didn't make me want to move along with the story. I didn't no like it, I just wasn't intrigued enough. Others in my book club really liked it, and upon our discussion I realized I didn't pick up on a few clues that make the book pretty interesting. I think a second read may make me really like it.
This book contains as faithful a depiction of human frailties as you'll find. The narrator's observations are peppered with dry humor that makes even the tragic events enjoyable to read about. The plot includes skillfully interwoven threads in a multi-generational family history, and there are several surprising plot twists. Our book group found plenty of fodder for discussion in this deft, engaging portrayal of humanity, warts and all.
