Fascinating and enticing. I intend to read more about the American Revolution after reading Vol I of Octavian's astonishing life. I consider this book sublime: it is a captivating narrative with a unique and horrifying premise that truly engages the reader. I consider its designation as a young adult historical novel rather insignificant, as this book is appropriate for an older audience. It does what classic literature should do: it deepens the reader's understanding of universal themes and our personal connection to history, environment, and society.

I didn't like this book. Some members of our club thought it was absolutely spellbinding. I thought the characters were too thinly drawn and even the setting was not fully developed.
