Easy read and at lest led to good discussion but other than that I/we were not very impressed with Shreve, especially for me after her EPIC Fortunes Rock. With so much literature I would skip this book choice and choose another novel for you book club. Best Regards and Happy New Year 2014.
PS If you read this Anita, the trial section was excellent but wish the entire novel was that caliber.
I was attracted to this book because of the amnesia, World War 1, British / American, psychiatry, and mystery themes. The story was somewhat interesting, but ultimately, it didn’t satisfy me. I found it to be an average read, at best. Not one of Shreve’s best.
The book was interesting, but not compelling. Some of the premises were hard to accept...i.e. leaving your children and traveling so far to a dangerous place. The ending was rushed.
Our book club really enjoyed this book and a glimpse into WW1
3.5 stars for this one.
Atypical of many of Shreve's works, this one was pleasant enough, but never quite rose to the brilliance of her earlier books. The ending felt a bit rushed & abrupt. As always though, there were passages that were really beautifully rendered.
