One of the funniest books I've read in a long time!

"laugh out loud funny" by jprescott13 (see profile) 07/30/12

I laughed throughout this book but it also has a serious poignant side. I felt sorry for her while laughing at her misadventures. Loved the book. The author has a wonderful wit and sense of humor. Be advised it contains graphic language. This is a must read.

If you like her blog, The Bloggess, then you'll love her book. Jenny Lawson is clever and entertaining. Her chapters are short and quickly read. If you are not a fan of the blog trend of disclosing inner secrets, awkward moments, and the occasional rambling thoughts, then this is not the book for you. If you are, than prepare to be delighted and relating to one or more awkward moment as Jenny relates growing up in Texas and her emergence as one of the most popular bloggers today.

Very Funny. Sometimes shocking. A good insight into how we are all different and a reminder that maybe we shouldn't judge people too harshly when we don't know what their "Journey" has been.

This was the worst book our club has ever chosen and the only one that was not finished by any member. Most gave up at about 25-30 pages in. It just wasn't even funny! The author uses sarcasm and foul language in an attempt at humor. Her writing is a flight of ideas depicting her abusive childhood. Her favorite word is the F word. There are just too many great books to choose from to waste your time on this one. We were all puzzled at the great reviews.

" Let's Pretend This Never Happened: (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson" by juneshockley (see profile) 12/11/12

A pointless diatribe about experiences that may have an ounce of truth but in all probability were embellished beyond recognition. The first chapter was no different in substance than the 5th chapter or the last chapter. The author should throw away THAT cookie cutter!!!!!

"Not for the Easily Offended" by brnoze (see profile) 02/26/13

Now Jenny is one flawed human being, but I loved her and learned through her story. She is not afraid to open herself up to her readers and expose deeply personal life changing experiences. Jenny uses graphic language and would offend the easily offended, but if you are not afraid to explore quirky life styles and delve into how others look at life than maybe you will love Jenny too. I learned a lot about life just looking at it through her eyes. She is not like anyone I know but she is someone who can shine a light on the world, a bit at a slant, but still illuminate it in a humorous and insightful way.

Literally I found myself laughing out loud while I read this - and many times! It's irreverant and there are parts where you think its too ridiculous but then I thought - no, I know people just like this. It also makes you recognize that families often aren't "normal" and we all have a little crazy in us and that we should celebrate that.

"A Hilariously Wonderful Story about Life, Love, and Accepting Yourself As You Are" by RockinRenee (see profile) 08/12/13

Jenny Lawson has written a memoir that will have you laughing out loud, but it will also move you deeply. As she tells the story of her life, she reveals a lesson that she learned from every experience (no matter how unusual and/or tragic). Everyone in my book club enjoyed this book.

  "Let\'s pretend I didn\'t read this" by ccroft78248 (see profile) 04/07/15

I struggled with this book. It is filled with anger and conflict so it was not pleasurable to read. I hope the author was able to come to terms with her upbringing in West Texas and able to find a way to relate without arguing or creating chaos in her life. The last three chapters of this book were humorous, James Garfield, Hamlet, and the alligator, but my mind was made up long before I got to those last 30 pages. I would not suggest this for a book club reading.
