Atlee Pine, the main character, is a young, single, no nonsense female FBI agent with the main responsibility of investigating crimes in and around the Grand Canyon National Park. Along with her assistant, Carol Blum, a woman of a certain age, after being told to stand down on an investigation of a dead mule and missing rider in the Grand Canyon, they set out on a road trip that could change the course of the U.S. government. They kick butt and take names along the way.
Atlee Pine's twin sister, Mercy, was kidnapped from their bedroom when they were six years old and Atlee remains determined to find out what happened to her sister.
The majority in our book club had not read any books by this author previously. It is the first in a series of books that he is writing about the Atlee Pine character (called the Atlee Pine series).
The book kept my interest and I would consider reading the second book in the series when it is published.
