We don't value our elderly and leave them alone in nursing homes, depending on someone else to nurture them in their last days. Lorraine is one of those compassionate caregivers who helps the elderly lead a life of dignity and respect. She also conveys that message to her daughter and it becomes her legacy. A beautiful book full of hope and compassion.
I personally worked with the elderly and found this book to be full of love and beautifully written. Nursing homes get a bad name by our society but please know that there are wonderfully, compassionate people working with our loved ones. Like in any profession there are bad seeds and they must be weeded out. I always told my staff, do not ever feel unappreciated for what you do is a true specialty and it takes a special person to care for our "old people"...there by the grace of God go I.
Cute and endearing story. Loved Margaret and her sassy personality, made me laugh despite her circumstance. Very sad story, but one that really makes you think about those in nursing homes, lives forgotten. Parts of the book were very slow, but the vivid characters made me want to continue on and finish their story.
