This book was absolutely excruciating to get through, painful to read. The characters were unlikeable. Very depressing, with no redeeming qualities. The Lovely Bones was interesting and kept you reading. This one was horrible. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
It was difficult to read because the subject matter is unthinkable yet, you question.
Are you capable of killing your own mother? Do we ever really break away from our parents? and gentically speaking will we carry their same traits and pass them on to own children.
I'm not convenced this book was horrible...the subject matter is perhaps horid but they writing is well done.
However, if you are looking for a soft and fuzzy...keep looking this books isn't for you!
I keep waiting for another "Lovely Bones" from Sebold, and unfortunately, this is not it.
I finished the book, so it was not a total waste, but I would not read it again, and I will hesitate to read Sebold's next novel.
I personally did not enjoy this book but after discussion I have more respect for the work. I would recommend this book for discussion but I would not recommend this book as a solo read.
Although this book contained no endearing characters, I still found the novel to be highly entertaining and psychologically interesting. I have no idea why all the bad reviews because all in all, it was very well written and thought provoking.
This book makes for some interesting conversations, so it is a good pick for book clubs.
This book was well written but extremely weird.
