I am not normally a fan of short stories. These are well-written and show insight into a different culture.
The author give descriptive info to the characters in her stories and how they effected each other.
Lahiri is an excellent writer whose characters are well drawn and interesting. The 8 stories in this book deal with family and secrets. One or more of the family members are Indian, some 1st generation others 2nd. The immigrant story and cultural clash comes through in all the stories. Recommend for book club discussion.
I don't usually read short stories, but I wascaptivated by these and her style of writing.
The short stories left you wanting for more of the story so left the imagination working--a good thing! Appreciated the some of the final stories completing the first ones....
I loved this book, and didn\\\'t want it to end. The other members of our Book Club had mixed feelings. They all agreed it was well written and that she, Jhumpa Lahiri is an excellent author.
I love the slow and steady observations of Lahiri’s writing and was so excited to find one I hadn’t read. Each short story builds a world through intimate details about how characters make their tea or wear their hair.
