This was our bookclub selection of which I knew nothing. To me, I found the book pointless, the characters unbelievable, the story was repetitive and boring. Personally, I did not care about nor connect with any of the characters and could not wait to finish this book. I am anxious to hear others comments at our meeting.
It actually had the foundation for being an interesting book. Even though I didn't like the characters I thought it could have been a good read. It was way too long and very repetitive. It had an interest factor as far as dysfunctional families go but not highly believable
Not one person in my book club liked this book. Only two of us actually finished it, and that was very difficult! I donated my copy to the local library. Hopefully, someone will have a different opinion and get use out of it!
Freedom was a good book that I enjoyed now that I have finished reading it. When I started reading the book I soon realized how the author really wants you to understand the characters personality and relationships with each other bc as you read on it helps you understand the choices they are making. The book is very long and a bit slow. There were times when I was thinking I could not wait for it to be over. The closer I got to the end the more I appreciated the story. Also just when you think its going down hill some thing exciting happens that keeps you turning pages.
I didn't like the characters. I thought the plot was slow and unrealistic. The writing was not engaging. The sex stuff was gratuitous at best. (Apparently the redeeming things happen very near the end, which I gave up and didn't read.)
That being said, we had a GREAT 2.5 hour discussion about freedom, being free, expectations of relationships, and how people deal with trying to get the love they didn't receive from their family growing up.
Intriguing characters and persuasive story line. I kept coming back to find out what happens next. This book generated the most conversation from our group despite varied ratings of the book.
