The story never takes off. Atwood flips from present time to past without cohesion. Characters appear & disappear without purpose. The story line does not progress on a linear basis - and lastly, her prose does not capture nor keep the interest. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Too depressing! There is not one positive description in this book. Ok I realize Elaine deals with depression, but the author can not see any beauty anywhere!
This book provoked a fascinating and thought-provoking discussion on bullying. Beautifully written, it was an interesting opportunity to compare Canadian culture and writing to American styles and values. Highly recommended!
