There have only been a few books in my life in which I was completely drawn in. I literally did not want to put this book down. Courtenay's storytelling is phenomenal and once reading his stories, you will find yourself mentally making note of needing to read all the rest of his books.

An inspiring tale of Peekay, a five year old orphan of sorts, at the beginning of the book, living in South Africa. His inspiring story of living as a Brit among Afrikans and native peoples. I learned a lot about the Boer War and WWI in South Africa as well as the political situation in country. Definitely inspiring and depressing on many levels.
