This book takes the stories of three women living near Lake Superior during different parts of history and intersperses them. However, the three stories do not every connect or relate to each other in any way except that they are all women and all by the lake. The group's consensus was that it should have either been three short stories or one story should have been developed into a book. The author could have explored aspects of the lake in greater depth, and we were frustrated that the characters were so broken and flat. No plot, no interesting characters, no insightful descriptions of the geography...we had nothing to discuss except how the book could have been better.
