I recapped it on our blog here: http://storiedellesorelle.blogspot.com/2009/01/recap-interpreter-of-maladies.html
Each story was unique as well as the characters that they portrayed. They give a spotlight to the Indian culture without it becoming the central point of each of the stories. The author introduces each characters "malady" without judgement and offers the reader a chance to experience their struggles and emotions just ever so briefly as to deliver a concise and powerful snapshot into their lives. Very good read.
This collection of short stories reveals the characters true natures with brutal honesty and explores universal themes such as loneliness and isolation. A beautiful collection of stories.
We read this book on the tails of reading Unaccustomed Earth. Most readers liked Unaccustomed Earth better, but still thought this was thought provoking. We like how she weaves the cultural issues into the story without being overbearing about it.
This was closer to a 3.5 for our group. We thought the author had beautiful character development and some of the stories were very interesting. However, we felt that some of the stories were a bit "cut off".
