In this incredible voyage, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew show a more than human strength in order to survive. Shackleton is a man of great mental power and intelligence, but most of all a man whose integrity and nobility and great self determination makes it possible to save all his man from a frigid death.

"An incredible trip to the Pole and almost unbelievably nobody dies" by minouch (see profile) 04/01/08

I was cold the whole time I was reading it. Never knew that a book could make you freezing.
It is almost unbelievable that without the newest excuipment and without enough food they did what they set out to do.
And survived.
I loved to read it it is well written and the only thing I missed is some more personal details about the crew and how they fared after wards

"Good story but not good discussion" by kristorr (see profile) 06/27/09

This was a very intersting story, and I am glad we read it, but it was not a book that prompted a very stimulating discussion. I would recommend it, but not for a bookclub discussion.

"Unbelievable story but is true!" by Jakuy (see profile) 09/15/10

"Endurance - Alfred Lansing" by vtreader (see profile) 11/01/10

The start of the book seemed a little slow but ended as a dramatic adventure story - all the more amazing because it is a true story. One book club member had a version with actual pictures from the journey and it was great to see what the ship and crew members looked like. Definitely recommend this as an interesting read that leads to a lot of good discussion.

"chapter six" by maxco2 (see profile) 11/07/10

It is a memorable book that will be with you forever

"If this was fiction, you would never believe it!" by mindysauve (see profile) 02/24/12

Unbelievable story of leadership and survival under the most harrowing conditions imaginable. Strongly recommend the DVD set for viewing after The book has been read. It contains actual photo footage of the boat being crushed plus a more detailed biography on Shackleton's life and his fate after this voyage. Remarkable story!

"Endurance" by ljbolson (see profile) 05/14/14

Captivating story and details of survival. Difficult to put down. Knowing they all survive does not ruin the ending, but instead propels you through the book to discover how the impossible is achieved.
