Cute - cute - cute. I LOVE dog stories and this one rated right up there. It's no prize winner, but if you're in the mood for a fun read and love dogs, you'll laugh right along with Chet.

This was a light summer read. Chet, as the dog narrator, was great. We decided the author was obviously a dog owner and lover as he got the dog parts perfectly. There are a few unbelievable scenes but this is not a serious book. It is meant to be fun.

Dog On It by Spencer Quinn is the first in a series featuring Bernie Little and Chet, his dog. They are partners in a private investigation firm. Chet narrates the stories. Other reviewers have called Chet “wise,” “lovable,” and “smart.” I agree. He tells the story through his dog eyes which means he may not understand all the human elements, but he describes them so we readers get the message.
In Dog On It, Bernie and Chet take on the case of a missing teenager, Madison Chambliss. The case quickly becomes contentious because Madison’s divorced parents have different ideas about what has happened with Madison. Without giving away any spoilers, I will say the case also becomes dangerous to both Chet and Bernie as well as complicated by Madison’s father’s lies.
Bernie and Chet struggle to keep afloat; Chet is worried about their finances. Luckily, for both of them, the two work well together and always have each other’s backs. When Chet is kidnapped during the investigation, readers will worry about how he gets back to Bernie. The suspense continues to build later when Bernie is kidnapped. The introduction of reporter Suzie Sanchez is an important element in the story too. Read the story to discover all the plot twists.
