The book is well written and presents a handful of complex topics quite clearly. The subject matter is well chosen, focusing on momentous events with familiar characters, to create a story that is undoubtedly entertaining.

Most importantly, the author gives a unique perspective on history by analyzing it through important negotiations, rather than through the typical narrative or biography. I've read about many of the topics covered here, but I've never encountered this type of insight into what happened and why.

In addition, I think there is more to learn from this book than from most other books covering history. Reading and thinking about this set of past events leads to a reconsideration of the very basic ways in which we often deal with others in social and professional situations.

Definitely an entertaining, interesting, and insightful book.
